How to Easily Identify BMW U Keys With or Without UWB Function (CA vs CG)
When working with BMW U-type keys, it's important to distinguish whether the key includes the UWB (Ultra-Wideband) function — this directly affects compatibility and key programming stability. Here's a simple way to identify it.
How to Tell the Difference
Each BMW U key has a small code mark printed on the key housing or PCB area.
- CA – Indicates the high-configuration version with UWB function.
- CG – Indicates the standard version without UWB.

Tips for Key Programmers
If you're using KEYDIY devices such as KD-X4, KD-MAX, or KD-MATE, you'll notice a big difference in performance depending on the key version.
For CG (non-UWB) BMW U keys, generating and programming with the KEYDIY FGB remote key works extremely well. These low-configuration versions are very stable and reliable for both remote generation and IMMO programming.
On the other hand, CA (UWB) versions are designed for higher-end BMW systems that use additional communication features — but they're not always required unless the original vehicle uses UWB-based proximity functions.
